integrative

Counselling provides a safe and confidential space for the client to talk about and explore issues which they may not be able to talk to friends and family about.  It is an opportunity for clients to really be heard in an accepting and non-judgemental environment.

On a more personal level, I would say that I believe in empowering people rather than ‘just’ helping them.  I believe that people can change their lives and the way they are.  My approach is honest, but supportive and focuses on the client’s inner resources.

I use an integrative approach to counselling.  This means that I incorporate different counselling models in my work. These models include the person-centred approach, transactional analysis (TA) and the Gestalt approach. In addition to this, I use (when appropriate) anger management techniques and creative interventions such as art therapy. I also believe that looking at our past can give us insights into the person we are today.  We can learn to identify patterns, which help us understand our current situation.

I believe that using an integrative approach is beneficial to the client because it means that we have more options when choosing what the best way forward is.
